The Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center (VAMC) in Wichita, Kansas is currently recruiting for a Registered Nurse - Nursing Officer of the Day to work in our Float Pool.

• The Registered Nurse - Nursing Officer of the Day (NOD) is responsible for delivering and coordinating safe, efficient, and effective patient care throughout all facility areas. This role involves leadership in managing complex patient care, ensuring continuity, and promoting peer accountability. The NOD serves as the facility's expert in patient care, providing emergency medical support, guiding staff, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to optimize health outcomes for Veterans. Duties include, but are not limited to: Leading and organizing the delivery of patient care to ensure continuity and peer accountability, including access to care and discharge planning. Serving as the facility nursing expert at all hours, supporting and facilitating emergency medical support and identifying escalating medical crises. Allocating staffing resources throughout the facility to meet patient care needs, especially during weekends, holidays, and after-hours tours. Guiding, developing, and supporting staff using professional standards, scientific evidence, and leadership principles to evaluate programs and service activities. Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams for decisions related to ongoing patient care and emergency actions, providing programmatic outcomes to nursing leadership.
