This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. • Clinical Responsibilities 50%: Provide direct clinical care to veterans presenting to the emergency departments and their clinics, including timely assessments, diagnosis, stabilization and treatment. Ensure appropriate disposition and discharge planning including admission decisions and coordination of care with consulting and ancillary services. Order, review and interpret laboratory and diagnostic imaging studies in a timely manner to support safe and efficient patient care. Provide clinical supervision and guidance to residents, APP's, and medical students to support safe, effective and evidence-based emergency care. Auto prep rational conduct, effective communication and collaborative teamwork while providing on-duty leadership and addressing clinical, operational administrative issues as they arise Documentation of care in the medical record in keeping with the bylaws of the Medical Center. Administrative Responsibilities 50%: Provide clinical and operational leadership through close partnerships with nursing leadership, emergency physicians, advanced practice providers and hospital administration. Advancement of a patient centered care model that promotes clinical excellence, effective and efficient patient flow and responsiveness to the evolving needs of veterans and the broader healthcare system Lead and advanced emergency department performance and process improvement initiative to enhance quality, efficiency, patient flow and care delivery Maintaining compliance with established variable work schedule guidelines (for participating physicians) and other scheduling requirements to ensure compliance and timely reconciliation of Variable Work Schedule Program for Emergency Medicine Physicians and regular schedule of non-VWS providers Ensure appropriate provider staffing and coverage to maintain uninterrupted ED operations, including timely management of sick calls and other anticipated staffing needs Ensure 24-hour daily ED leadership coverage for emergent clinical and administrative issues with clear designation of appropriate coverage during periods when the Chief is unavailable or on leave Promote responsible stewardship of fiscal resources through appropriate utilization of overtime Monitor regulatory requirements impacting the ED and maintain ongoing compliance through staff education, policy adherence and active preparation for M participation in accreditation and certification surveys Ensure timely completion and ongoing oversight of focus professional practice evaluations (FPPE) and ongoing professional practice evaluations (OPPE) for ED providers in accordance with VHA requirements, supporting provider competency, quality of care and continued clinical privileging Work collaboratively with the assistant chief to provide shared leadership and ensure effective completion of departmental priorities, projects and assigned responsibilities Develop and oversee structure process for recruiting and onboarding qualified emergency care providers including active participation in candidate selection and ensuring timely credentialing, orientation and training consistent with VHA requirements, hospital policies Oversees provider labor approval and time in attendance processes including review and certification of time sheets to ensure accuracy, timeliness and compliance with VHA requirements Serves as the emergency medicine subject matter expert by contacting clinical chart reviews and providing specialty expertise for peer reviews, quality and performance monitoring and responses to congressional or other formal inquiries involving emergency department care Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:30am-4:00pm VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package.
