The Creative Arts Therapist for the to the St. Louis VA Health Care System is aligned under the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Service. Provides art therapy to Veterans at Community Living Center, Psychiatry Units, Hospice and Palliative Care, Domiciliary (DRRTP), Spinal Cord Injury, Mental Health, Substance Abuse Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (SARRTP) Medial Foster Home, Polytrauma Programs, Exercise and Aquatic program.

  • This is a direct patient care position in which the incumbent is responsible for performing the work of a creative arts therapist which encompasses a variety of different duties and responsibilities. Duties may include but are not limited to: Emotion regulation Resolve traumatic memories Active meditation and build empathy and a sense of self worth. Identifies potential risks and need for adaptive interventions with cases to facilitate improved well-being. Develop art therapy programs, interventions and directives including materials selection that are appropriate to the needs, skills, and aptitudes of the patient to achieve therapeutic goals through engagement in the creative process. Supports engagement in and reflection of the art process and product through an art therapy framework to develop specific skills attained through art that may include increased independence, focus to task, sense of self-worth, coping skills, self-care, and social skills. Provides a safe environment for patients to understand the symbolic expression of their art product, process, and their experience with the materials as it relates to their recovery and wellness to patients on the various programs: Community Living Center, Psychiatry Units, Hospice and Palliative Care, Domiciliary (DRRTP), Spinal Cord Injury, Mental Health, Substance Abuse Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (SARRTP) Medial Foster Home, Polytrauma Programs, and Exercise and Aquatic program.
