This position is located in Region 6. The ideal candidate will have experience with dam and levee safety concerns and inundation modeling techniques for breach scenarios. The incumbent will also have experience collaborating with other staff from outside the immediate workplace on new programs.

• What will I do in this position if hired? In this position, you will serve as a Regional expert on dam and levee safety issues. In particular, this position will develop training and guidance for state or local staff to utilize during the maintenance of dams or levees. Typical assignments include: Working extensively with Headquarter's staff as well as coordinators from other Regions to develop a national dam safety program and formulate goals or emphasis areas of national importance. Leading technical expert supporting the Dam Safety Grants in the region. Leading technical engineer in Hydrology and Hydraulics modeling related to Hydraulic structures, such as dams and levees. Collaborating with outreach team to develop presentations for emergency management or floodplain management conferences. Delivering the direction of the national dam safety program and highlighting the tools developed for dam or levee owners to use in their local program. What else do I need to know? At FEMA, our mission is to help people before, during and after disasters, and every employee at FEMA has a role in emergency management. Every FEMA employee has regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities, though not every position requires routine deployment to disaster sites. All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official position description. Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.
