The Retirement Benefits Analyst works within the Member Services Division and performs highly complex retirement processing functions within one or more specialized areas. The incumbent applies advanced technical knowledge and analytical skills to support multiple areas of Member Services as needed. This position serves as a key technical resource within the division and plays an important role in maintaining the accuracy, integrity, and quality of retirement processing and member services.

The incumbent determines member eligibility for benefits in accordance with Title 11 of the LA Revised Statutes, board policies and administrative decisions.  Computes monthly retirement benefit amounts and adjustments to member benefit payments.

Six years of full-time experience in any field; OR

A bachelor's degree.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.The official job specifications for this role, as defined by the State Civil Service, can be found here.Job Duties:
  • Audit member records to verify continued eligibility for all applicable retirement types and benefits.
  • Determine eligibility for membership, total years of service, contributions, and retirement eligibility.
  • Prepare detailed correspondence explaining Retirement System laws, rules, regulations, eligibility requirements, and benefit calculation methodologies.
  • Perform quality assurance activities at the direction of the Section Supervisor and assist in researching and resolving internal or external audit observations.

Position-Specific Details:Appointment Type:  Probational, Promotional, Detail to Special Duty, or Job Appointment. LASERS requires all new hires to serve a minimum of eighteen (18) months not to exceed twenty-four (24) months in probational status including permanent state employees.Career Progression:  This position does participate in a Career Progression Group Retirement Benefits Analyst 1/2/3 or4.Compensation:  Retirement Benefits Analyst 1 position has a Special Entrance Rate of $40,164.80 /annuallyRetirement Benefits Analyst 2 position has a Special Entrance Rate of $43,243.20 /annuallyRetirement Benefits Analyst 3 position has a Special Entrance Rate of $49,192.00 /annuallyHow To Apply:
