Biological Science Technician (Fish)

You will serve as a Biological Science Technician (Fish) for Maryland Fish and Wildlife Conservation Office. This is a term position with an initial appointment expecting to last at least 13 months but may be extended up to a total of ten years, or more based on any changes to regulations governing the number of years term appointments may last, without further competition at management's discretion. First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the step 1 rate.

• Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following: Assists in planning and carrying out multifaceted fish and/or wildlife studies, field investigations and surveys by contributing ideas, determining research methods, establishing practical procedures for accomplishing and reporting the work, and determining other needs, such as costs, equipment and personnel. Independently monitors, plans, and implements activities related to conservation, management, and/or control of fish. Captures fish, applies various tags, and gathers biological, physiological and spatial data on fish. Employee develops and uses automated databases to enter, organize and perform preliminary analysis of collected field data, using standard statistical methods in preparation of fisheries reports. Conduct outreach and provide information on fish and wildlife resources and the Fish and Wildlife Service to groups Participates in collection of invasive fish through boat/backpack electrofishing and other fish collection techniques.
