Albany, Oregon's city government is only the tenth largest employer in its own town, by the city's own count: 384 people. Nine employers are bigger: Samaritan Health Services at 2,527 down to OFD Foods at 400, with ATI at 1,300 in between. The city incorporated in 1864, adopted a home rule charter in 1891, runs a council-manager government over 17.7 square miles, and budgeted 401.78 full-time equivalents in 2023.
Two libraries answer to the city, the Main Library and the Carnegie Library, each with a children's room. Parks and Recreation runs the Riverfront Community Center, the Albany Community Pool, and a summer-only COOL!
