Hollywood maintains a brick-paved promenade almost 2.5 miles long on the Atlantic. The Broadwalk carries pedestrians, joggers, cyclists, and rollerbladers past the Hollywood Beach Theatre, a children's water playground at Charnow Park, and public art displays. Two shuttles run here: the Sun Shuttle, on demand, $2 a ride, around the barrier island and between the beach and downtown, and the free Holly-Go, which covers routes citywide. Three parking garages and metered street parking serve the beach, which sits between Miami and Fort Lauderdale.
Fire Rescue and Beach Safety is a single department here, which tells you something about the shoreline's place in city operations. Around it sit Police, Public Utilities, Public Works, Parking, Development Services with its building inspectors and plan examiners, and a Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts department holding the ArtsPark and the Hollywood Marina.
