Sacramento County provides services to 1.6 million residents, and for the more than half a million of them who live in unincorporated areas, the county effectively is city hall, delivering the everyday services a municipal government otherwise would.

The county covers about 994 square miles with seven incorporated cities inside it: Sacramento, Elk Grove, Folsom, Citrus Heights, Rancho Cordova, Galt, and Isleton.
