Dona Ana County careers

Doña Ana County states its purpose plainly: government that enhances the health, safety, and quality of life for all residents, delivered through teamwork in a fair, respectful, and professional manner. Behind the mission statement is the second-largest county in New Mexico, more than 219,500 residents spread over 3,814 square miles at the state's southern edge.

The geography explains the job list. The county borders El Paso County, Texas and the Mexican state of Chihuahua, takes in the cities of Anthony, Las Cruces, and Sunland Park along with the Town of Mesilla and the Village of Hatch, and farms a valley the county calls a leading producer of chile peppers, onions, and pecans. New Mexico State University and Doña Ana Community College are here, and so are the Organ Mountains Desert Peaks National Monument and White Sands. County operations run from the sheriff's office, fire rescue, and a detention center through health and human services, roads, utilities, a jetport, and animal control, all administered from Las Cruces. One more distinction the county itself enjoys pointing out: it is one of only two counties in the country with a diacritical mark in its name, sharing the honor with Coös County, New Hampshire. Both sit on international borders, which is not a coincidence.
