Fivetran's two founders met in 1988, camping at their families' lakeside cabins in Wisconsin. George Fraser and Taylor Brown started the company in 2012 out of Y Combinator with a data analysis tool for scientists, and in 2014 the three-person team built a connector to feed data into it. People started asking to buy the connector, so the connector became the business. Fivetran now sells automated data movement from ten offices in nine countries, headquartered in the Oakland office it opened that same year, and passed 5,000 customers in 2022.
Connectors are the product, so engineering carries the company, with the sales, support, and partner teams a 5,000-customer base needs, spread over ten offices from Oakland and Denver to Novi Sad, Bengaluru, and Sydney.
