Across the North Carolina Piedmont, Guilford County's government serves the communities around Greensboro and High Point, urban centers surrounded by suburbs, small towns, and working farms. A nine-member Board of Commissioners, elected by district and at large to staggered four-year terms, sets policy, chooses a chair each December, and works through a county manager who directs the departments from day to day.
