Hubbard House Inc careers

A volunteer riding a bicycle down Hubbard Street, in Jacksonville's Springfield neighborhood, saw a house for sale, and that is where the name comes from. The group behind it had set up a rape crisis hotline in the 1970s and kept hearing the same thread running through the calls: domestic violence. Hubbard House opened on that spot in 1976, the first domestic violence shelter in Florida by its own account. It now runs a 116-bed facility at a confidential address plus an Outreach Center on Beach Boulevard, serving Duval and Baker counties, and has answered more than 147,000 hotline calls across 50 years.
Direct service is where most of the staff sit: victim advocates, counselors for adults and for children, certified teachers running small classes for school-aged kids in shelter, Children's Learning Center staff for the little ones, a court advocate, an Injunction for Protection attorney, and a job coach. Some advocates work outside the building entirely, embedded with child welfare partners and at the Duval County Courthouse.
