Kongsberg's American arm was established in 2005 and runs from Alexandria, Virginia, with more than 250 people across Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Michigan. More than 220 of them work at one plant. Johnstown, Pennsylvania has been in production since 2008, has shipped over 20,000 remote weapon stations and roughly 100 remote turrets, and is by the company's account its largest production facility outside Norway. A $10 million expansion finished there in the fall of 2025, adding tooling and a line for the US Marine Corps' Amphibious Combat Vehicle. A missile plant planned for James City County, Virginia, is slated to employ 187.
Manufacturing carries the headcount. Johnstown builds remote weapon stations and turrets, which calls for assemblers, machinists, test technicians, quality inspectors, and the manufacturing engineers over them, while Alexandria holds the headquarters functions and program management for the Naval Strike Missile, Joint Strike Missile, NASAMS, and PROTECTOR lines.
