The oldest piece of Mount Sinai opened in 1820, the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary, now one of the system's seven hospital campuses. Morningside dates to 1846, The Mount Sinai Hospital to 1852, West to 1864, Queens to 1896, the Phillips School of Nursing to 1904, and South Nassau to 1928. Paired with the Icahn School of Medicine, founded in 1963, the system runs 3,215 beds, 142 operating rooms, and more than 400 outpatient practice locations, on annual revenue of $12.8 billion in 2025.
Roughly 48,000 people work here, upwards of 9,000 physicians and 8,600 nurses among them. The campuses reach Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, and Long Island, and ten free-standing joint venture centers, five of them endoscopy and four outpatient surgery, sit alongside the hospitals.
