Oracle employs 141,000 people on revenue of 57 billion dollars in its 2025 fiscal year, a company built on nearly five decades of database software. Larry Ellison, Bob Miner, and Ed Oates founded it in 1977 as Software Development Laboratories, and the road from that first database runs through more than 150 acquisitions worth over 110 billion dollars. Today it sells cloud infrastructure and applications, stewards Java, and operates what it calls the world's largest electronic health record implementation, serving more than 9.5 million beneficiaries in the United States, Europe, and the Asia Pacific region.
