Orange County, North Carolina dates to 1752; its county seat of Hillsborough hosted the state's Constitutional Convention in 1778. Today the county government serves more than 140,000 residents across 400 square miles between the Research Triangle and the Triad, taking in Chapel Hill, Carrboro, Mebane, and Hillsborough itself.
