Pennington County careers

Pennington County was created by the Dakota Territorial Legislature in 1875 and fully organized in 1877, a dozen years before South Dakota was a state. Its seat is Rapid City, and with more than 115,000 residents it ranks as the second most populous county in South Dakota. The county government oversees the services that keep the region running, public health, safety, infrastructure, and community well-being among them, which makes it among the steadier public employers in the western half of the state.
