It opened in 1964 as Richmond Technical Institute, became Richmond Technical College in 1980, and took its present name in July 1987, when the technical school programs were joined by the wider offering of a community college. Today RichmondCC serves roughly 10,000 students in southeastern North Carolina, about 30 percent of them in curriculum programs and nearly 70 percent in continuing education, across more than 60 degrees, diplomas, and certificates.
