Uniti Group Inc. was incorporated in Delaware on April 19, 2024, under the name Windstream Parent, Inc., created as part of the merger that brought Windstream and the old Uniti together. What that produced is roughly 240,000 fiber route miles across 47 states, more than a million customers, and about 1.9 million fiber-equipped households, concentrated in the Midwest and Southeast.

The customer mix explains why the engineering jobs here vary so much. More than 500,000 of those customers are residential fiber subscribers, served under the Kinetic brand; the company also sells managed cloud communications and security services to large enterprises and government, and waves and transport capacity to carriers, content providers, and other large users of bandwidth. Those are three different networks in practice, sharing the same route miles. The merger history is worth carrying into an interview, too. A company formed this recently from two older ones tends to still be integrating systems, territories, and job titles, and the filing is candid that the combined business is the product of that transaction rather than a long single history. For a splicer or an outside plant technician, the useful number is the route miles and where they run, since the work follows the footprint.
