Utah Tech University opened in 1911 as St. George Stake Academy and has changed names with nearly every change in role since: Dixie Normal College, Dixie Junior College, Dixie State College of Utah, then Dixie State University when it gained university status in 2013, and finally Utah Tech in 2022. The St. George campus itself dates to 1963, built on land donated to the State of Utah in 1955.
