This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of application. • The Nurse Inpatient Staff Charge RN provides safe, evidence-based, patient-centered care and offers clinical leadership within the interdisciplinary team. RN is accountable for the full nursing process and ensures coordinated care focused on education, self-management, and quality outcomes. The RN supports unit operations through effective delegation, staff guidance, and active involvement in improvement initiatives and professional development. Major duties include, but are not limited to: Provides and supervises safe, evidence-based nursing care, demonstrating accountability for all elements of the nursing process. Coordinates patient care with a focus on education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care. Administers medications and performs nursing procedures in accordance with VA policies, guidelines, and established standards. Actively participates in unit-based quality improvement initiatives, performance measures, and customer service programs. Provides clinical oversight and guidance to licensed vocational nurses and nursing assistants according to scope and competencies. Contributes to nursing education by assisting with staff orientation, competency validation, and professional development activities. Demonstrates leadership in the delivery of holistic care and engages in collaborative strategies to enhance practice. Evaluates nursing practice on an ongoing basis using current evidence and provides constructive feedback to peers. Promotes a safe, supportive work environment that fosters growth and development of healthcare staff. Engages in interdisciplinary discussions, offering professional nursing perspectives to improve care coordination and outcomes. Supports colleagues through knowledge sharing and participation in activities that sustain an evidence-based practice culture. Directs and delegates patient flow and patient care assignments based on acuity, care needs, staff availability, and scope of practice. Collaborates with the clinical manager to assess staffing needs, overtime usage, and appropriate staffing ratios. Performs direct patient care as needed to support safe clinical operations. Maintains awareness of changes in VA standards, policies, procedures, and national directives related to nursing practice. Reviews and monitors quality improvement data, identifying trends and contributing factors to care improvements. Ensures adherence to VA patient care objectives, quality measures, safety protocols, environmental standards, and infection control requirements. Serves as a role model and mentor for new staff and students, promoting professional engagement and development. Places supply orders and initiates consults as required by protocol. Enhances professional growth through participation in educational programs, in-service trainings, literature review, and workshops. Participates in nursing committees, performance improvement activities, and data collection efforts. Provides and receives accurate reports regarding patient conditions and unit operations. Consults with the clinical manager regarding planning, directing, and evaluating nursing activities, including coordination of admissions and discharges.
