The position is located in the Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Mid-Atlantic Health Care Network (VISN 6), Richmond VA Medical Center (VAMC), within the Specialty Care Service. The primary purpose of this position is to ensure the smooth coordination of all administrative activities pertaining to Liver Transplant program to include performing administrative, program assessment and technical support for the Liver Transplant Program and related sections within the Specialty Care Service.

  • If selected at the GS-7 level, the work will be performed with more supervision and guidance. Appropriate on-the-job training will be provided as required and the incumbent must meet the entire requisite job training to be promoted to the next higher level. Duties include, but may not be limited to the following: Transplant Administrative Duties Constructs and manages multiple database programs which track patient specific information for clinical research projects as well as multiple organizations and review bodies such as the Medical Center, MCV, VISN 6, VA Central Office (VACO), United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS), utilizing the UNET Database, and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals (JCAH). Coordinates all Quality Analysis (QA) activities. Maintains the funding, credibility, and accreditation of the Liver Transplant program by accurately and timely reporting data. Assesses, evaluates, modifies, develops and implements new methods to meet the needs of the transplant program. Responds to questions from patients concerning services. Provides technical assistance to patients, administrative staff and professional staff. Receives and handles concerns ensuring that quality service is rendered in a timely, competent, and caring manner. Serves as a resource for questions including interpretation of policy relating to the provision of medical services. Responds to complex questions involving a range of issues. Research problems and/or reviews issues and requests related to information regarding provisions for medical care, eligibility, etc. Clarifies issues and evaluates the need for additional information. Sets up and coordinate patient's follow up care at this and other facilities. Consults with Transplant Coordinator / Director and schedules follow up tests to minimize hospital stay. Data Management and Budget Reporting Assures maintenance of detailed records on pre and post transplants. Documents, important events, test results, medication changes and other changes in the patient's care. Administratively monitors test results by retrieving data results from all VA's and update spreadsheets. Consults with Transplant Coordinator / Director on necessary changes to spreadsheet. Plans, implements and coordinates the collection and results of transplant related tests such as Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA), Tissue Typing, panel reactive antibodies, T & B lymphocyte cell reactivity, donor recipient crossmatch, endomyocardial biopsies, and immunosuppressive blood levels. Manages, compiles, and tracks data and statistical information in support of the operation of the transplant programs using multiple software programs such as United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS), On-Line Database (UNet), VA Program Database (Access), Veterans Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture (VISTA)/Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS), Transplant Website, National Surgery Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP), the VHA database for the Liver transplant patients. Administratively coordinates ongoing transplant. Performs other duties as assigned. Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 - 4:30 pm Telework: This position is not authorized for telework.
