About the Morrisville Public Works Department
Founded with the mission of Service through Stewardship, the Morrisville Public Works Department has grown alongside our community to provide essential services that keep our town safe, clean, and thriving. From maintaining streets and stormwater systems to supporting parks, greenways, and sustainability initiatives, our team ensures that Morrisville remains a place where residents and businesses can flourish. Public Works is the backbone of daily life in Morrisville, and we take pride in delivering reliable, high-quality service to over 34,000 residents in the heart of one of the nation’s fastest growing technology hubs: Research Triangle Park.
- Maintains parks, grounds, recreation areas, greenways and rights-of-ways.
- Performs basic landscaping services such as mowing, edging, trimming, weeding, and pruning.
- Performs preventive maintenance such as mulching, power washing, tree trimming, painting, and making minor repairs to park amenities
- Cleans rental shelters, restrooms, park buildings, empties trash and recycling, restocks dog stations.
- Cleans and visually inspects playgrounds, corrects minor problems and reports any major problems to supervisor.
- Inspects parks, grounds and rights-of-ways while performing duties, makes repairs as needed.
- Rakes and removes leaves, shovels and plows snow, plants trees, bushes and flowers.
- Assists with the turf management plan by overseeding, fertilizing, topdressing, aerating, and sodding.
- Plans and executes maintenance and preparation of athletic fields for use.
- Informs the public of the park rules and regulations. Enforces with assistance.
- Assists division and department with special projects such as tree plantings or new landscaping.
- Operates all equipment necessary to perform assigned task including, but not limited to: vehicles, mowers, tractors, utility vehicles, string trimmers, blowers, edgers, sprayers, hand and power tools.
- Cleans, inspects, and maintains tools, equipment and vehicles assigned to them on a regular basis.
- Assists in ensuring tools and equipment utilized by the staff are inspected, maintained and operated in a safe manner at all times. Reports issues to supervisor.
- Wears proper PPE when performing tasks.
- Works within the digital work order system to receive, track, update, and complete assigned work orders.
- Provides oversight and guidance to seasonal workers and volunteers.
- Applies chemical pesticides under the supervision of the licensed applicator.
- Ensures facilities are prepared and available for Town events and programs.
- Assists other Town departments with special events and emergency situations as needed.
- Responds to citizen inquires and complaints regarding parks and grounds.
- Performs related work as required.
High school diploma
Must be able to work evenings and weekends
Preferred
0 - 4 years experience in turf, landscape and or/or park maintenance operations
- Possession of a valid North Carolina driver’s license.
- Requires drug test, background check, and motor vehicle record check prior to employment.
- Motor vehicle record check required throughout employment; must be able to meet Town driving requirements at all times.
