Registered Nurse (Interventional Recovery Unit)

The Durham VA Healthcare System is seeking (1) highly skilled/experienced Registered Nurse to serve within Interventional Recovery Unit. Demonstrates leadership, experience/ingenious approaches to management of complex patient care. Accountable for the management of patient care, human, fiscal/material resources, & the total environment of the unit. Responsible to ensure that the highest possible quality of care is achieved & a safe therapeutic environment.

• The Interventional Recovery Unit is an eight-bay unit designated for Phase I and II procedural recovery. The unit provides optimal pre and post-procedure care for adult males and females that undergo invasive procedures and/or moderate sedation in the Cardiac Catheterization Lab, Electrophysiology Lab, Vascular Radiology, MRI, CT, and/or Ultrasound Lab. Duties include, but are not limited to: Cardiac catheterization with/without intervention, cardiac ablations, cardiac device implantation, arteriograms, angiograms, hepatic embolization, microwave ablations, central venous access, etc. Provide basic physiological monitoring of electrocardiogram, noninvasive blood pressure, and peripheral oxygen saturation. Provides care for various infusion patients working directly with the associated clinic. Patient care provided in collaboration with area Residents, Fellows, and Attending Physicians. Primary focus is pain management, patient/family education and discharge planning. Staffing levels are 1:3 or 1:4 depending on patient acuity levels. Preferred Experience: Successful Nursing experience within the past five years. Prior critical care or invasive procedure nursing experience within the past 2 years. Demonstrated ability to assume a charge nurse role navigating the flow of patients to the various critical care and recovery areas, assigning staff appropriately to match the skills needed for each patient care need. Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and with interdisciplinary staff members. Demonstrated ability to use the computer systems for patient care and documentation. Prior experience working with the Veteran population.
