This Advanced Medical Support Assistant (AMSA) position, GS-6, supports all PACT teams within Ambulatory Care Service and may be assigned to East Orange, Lyons, or any CBOC within VHA NJ HCS. The AMSA assists Veterans with the smooth management of outpatient appointments and provides support throughout the scheduling process in connection with their care and treatment.
- VA Careers - Medical Support Assistant: https://youtube.com/embed/EE9c4XkaELo Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional Duties include but are not limited to the following: Assist Veterans in navigating the medical system and managing outpatient appointments and care coordination Enter, modify, and retrieve sensitive information in electronic medical records, scheduling, and reporting systems Maintain patient confidentiality per HIPAA requirements Review and optimize clinic appointment schedules to meet clinic and patient needs Communicate effectively with patients, interdisciplinary care teams, VA medical centers, and outside agencies Set priorities, manage deadlines, and adjust workflow to meet team and patient needs Participate in team huddles and meetings to plan and coordinate patient care Track and manage follow-up care, including consults and test results Monitor pre-appointment requirements (e.g., labs, X-rays, EKGs) to ensure patient readiness Notify patients of normal lab results and process secure messaging Determine patient eligibility/vested status using clinic schedules and records Coordinate care for patients receiving treatment at multiple VA facilities or in the community Work collaboratively within a Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) or similar interdisciplinary model Apply knowledge of medical terminology, VA policies, and standard health records procedures Perform other assigned duties.
