The Nurse Recruiter is responsible and accountable for all elements of nursing recruitment and retention processes, demonstrating proficient decision-making skills for complex situations that effect performance outcomes. Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates nursing recruitment processes based on specific components. Participates in recruitment and retention programs and other aspects related to the maintenance of a highly competent workforce for the facility.
- The Nurse Recruiter is responsible for providing proficient, evidence-based practices in relation to recruitment and retention for a facility. The Nurse Recruiter serves as the key member in delivering and improving the processes of recruitment, onboarding, and retention of Registered Nurses (RNs). The Nurse Recruiter uses nursing practice, clinical knowledge, and data to assess, plan, coordinate, implement and evaluate recruitment and retention efforts of nursing staff. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Proactively work with the Nurse Managers (NM) to develop retention strategies, fostering a safe and supportive environment conducive to the professional development of healthcare professionals. Identify highly qualified talent for their facilities who aligns with the mission of caring for Veterans Utilize clinical knowledge, skills, and abilities to personalize the experience for the candidate, improve the recruitment and retention experience for all stakeholders and deliver compassionate nurses ready to provide care. Seek to develop strategic partnership with internal (facility leadership, current nursing staff, HR) and external (colleges, universities, associations) stakeholders to garner an applicable pipeline of candidates. Utilizes their clinical practice to assess the knowledge and experience of the candidate to ensure they are aligned with the outlined job requirements. Knowledge and experience of the candidate requirements and will clarify information to ensure the best fit for the candidate and the organization. Continually improve the nursing candidate's onboarding experience to ensure candidate's clinical experience and expertise aligns with the agency's mission. Responsible for analysis of recruitment and retention data to assist the facility with development of nursing workforce strategies and initiatives. Demonstrates the ability to improve the effectiveness of communication and interactions with others, to inspire their cooperation and confidence to ensure safe and effective outcomes in the current practice setting. Expand knowledge base and practice evaluation through mentoring, precepting, and/or teaching to improve outcomes in the immediate practice setting. Identifies clinical problems/issues in the nursing workforce related to recruitment and retention. Successfully transitions nursing students into the workforce from clinical rotations, student programs, Veterans Affairs (VA) Learning Opportunity Residencies, Post Baccalaureate Residency Programs, and others. Consistently communicates and treats the Veteran and as appropriate the Veteran's family, caregiver and/or significant other, the Veteran representatives, visitors to VA facilities, all VA staff, and other customers in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner. Leads the implementation of high reliability principles and I CARE values to increase consistency of care delivered and improve patient outcomes.
