The Registered Inpatient Staff Nurse provides knowledge-based, patient-centered care in a fast-paced acute medical-surgical unit. The role includes assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care, administering treatments, and coordinating patient education. The nurse collaborates with interdisciplinary teams, supports quality improvement, and contributes to nursing excellence for veteran patients.

• As a Registered Nurse in the acute care inpatient setting, you will demonstrate leadership and creative approaches to managing complex patient care. You will collaborate in developing and revising policies, provide constructive feedback to peers, and foster a supportive environment for professional development. The role is accountable for broad and complex outcomes at the program or service level, utilizing clinical expertise and evidence-based practice to address concerns and improve care quality. Participation in nursing excellence activities and Shared Governance councils is integral, reflecting a commitment to continuous improvement and innovation in veteran care. Major duties include, but are not limited to: Direct Patient Care - Delivers fundamental knowledge-based care to assigned clients while developing technical nursing skills .- Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates patient care using age-specific components .- Administers medications and performs procedures according to established VA policies and guidelines. - Coordinates care with a focus on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care. - Collaborates with members of the interdisciplinary team to influence care outcomes. Professional Practice & Delegation - Practices responsible and accountable individual nursing care and determines appropriate delegation of tasks based on assessed patient needs and safety considerations. - Formulates plans of care based on nursing assessments and seeks guidance to improve care provided to patients and families. - Delegates elements of care to the appropriate personnel based on patient condition and required safety standards. - Applies nursing principles and theory with limited use of critical thinking skills as clinical competence develops. Quality, Safety & Shared Governance - Participates in activities supporting nursing excellence and ongoing quality improvement. - Engages in unit-based and/or organizational Shared Governance councils. - Utilizes clinical expertise and evidence-based practice to identify innovative approaches for improving quality of care delivered to Veterans. - Assists in identifying concerns and contributing to solutions that enhance patient health outcomes.
