This Licensed Vocational Nurse/Licensed Practical Nurse (LVN/LPN) position is in the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Health Care System, Nursing Service, Ambulatory Care, located in New Orleans, Louisiana. The LVN/LPN works under the guidance of a Registered Nurse and/or medical staff physician/provider.
- Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional The primary purpose of this Licensed Practical/Licensed Vocational Nurse (LPN/LVN) is to perform assigned duties in a manner that promotes quality health care as an effective member of the clinical team. The LPN/LVN demonstrates sound techniques in complex nursing care procedures and basic care of acutely ill and chronically ill patients. Duties may include but are not limited to: Determines subjective and objective symptoms that require referral to the RN or provider for intervention. Interviews patients to elicit responses required to identify physical needs, problems or emotional concerns. Participates in the identification of patients at risk for physical restriction/rehabilitation, falls or addictive tendencies. Supports patients in early to terminal stages of illness(es) with understanding and encouragement and responds according to their individual needs. Performs complex-dressing changes, wound management, and specialized dermatological procedures. Collects laboratory specimens (urine, blood, culture and sensitivity) to support patient care. Assists with specialized outpatient exams during gynecological, otolaryngeal and ophthalmology visits. Performs tonometry and visual screening acuity measurements. Manages clinical intakes, preventive medicine screenings, pain education and allergy screenings and documents adverse reactions. Provides tracheotomy care including suctioning, cleaning, changing the inner cannula, deflating the cuff, and changing the dressings. Performs venipuncture samples to obtain laboratory specimen and test using appropriate collection tubes for laboratory processing. Work Schedule: Typically, Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.; Subject to change based on the needs of the facility. Recruitment/Relocation Incentives (Sign-on Bonus): Not Authorized. When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade). Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior work experience or military service experience. Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child. Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66. Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA. Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement). Telework: Not Available. Virtual: This is not a virtual position.
