This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.
- Duties include: Diagnostic interpretation of specimens processed within the laboratory (final sign-out of AP/CP cases). Provide guidance to residents/trainees on specimen processing and evaluation. Gross examination of anatomic pathology specimens when needed and review of gross descriptions. Process and interpret intraoperative frozen sections. Provide intraoperative/intraprocedural consultation and on-site adequacy assessment as requested. Interpretation and sign-out of surgical pathology specimens within established turnaround times. Order and interpret appropriate immunohistochemical and special stains. Participate in multidisciplinary conferences (e.g., Tumor Board, Chest Conference, GI Conference) as assigned. Autopsy coverage: review clinical history and consent; perform/supervise autopsies as needed; issue preliminary findings within 48 hours and final report with clinicopathologic correlation within 60 working days. Quality activities: participate in QA measures including =10% retrospective review of anatomic pathology cases and inter-laboratory comparison programs. Provide 24-hour on-call coverage as scheduled. Review hematology/body fluids and issue diagnostic interpretations. Maintain required continuing medical education (CME) to sustain licensure/privileges and complete mandatory TMS modules in a timely manner. With appropriate subspecialty experience/training, Diagnostic sign-out of bone marrow biopsies and aspirates. With appropriate subspecialty experience/training, Oversight/interpretation of flow cytometry relevant to hematologic disorders. Participation in surgical pathology service with equitable distribution of workload. Provide clinical laboratory consultation to technical personnel and healthcare providers; collaborate across services to optimize diagnostic accuracy and patient care. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm EDRP Authorized: Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply for incentive.
