Accomplished Endoscopy Registered Nurse joining the Nursing Service at the Central Virginia VA Health Care System with strong expertise in hospital-based Endoscopy care. Provides safe, compassionate evidence-based nursing for patients undergoing GI procedures, including assessments, moderate sedation monitoring, procedure support, and recovery, with a focus on safety, teamwork, and patient education.

• The Registered Nurse- Endoscopy position is located at the Central Virginia VA Health Care System in Richmond Virginia and the primary duties include but are not limited to: Delivers and manages the care of patients undergoing therapeutic and diagnostic endoscopy procedures including both inpatients and outpatients. Assesses the patients physical and mental status prior to procedures, educates on procedural and post-procedural care, and documents responses to interventions, findings, and reports any changes. Partners with the patient, family, and interdisciplinary team to promote effective and safe transitions across the health care continuum, including the Veteran's goals of care. Demonstrate leadership by active participation in unit Performance Improvement (PI) projects, unit/hospital committees, support charge nurse, and unit champion to new procedures. Responsible for monitoring patients undergoing Moderate Sedation and Monitored Anesthesia Care. Knowledge/experience of Moderate sedation agents and reversal drugs. Documents accurately, appropriately as required by policies and procedures. Perform proper labeling and preparation of specimensMust demonstrate the ability to withstand the physical and mental stress/ strain of a fast paced unit. Prepares the patient for endoscopic procedures: correct patient/procedure, obtains vital signs, interviews the patient(history and physical), point of care testing, communicate to anesthesia team and Endoscopy doctors in a concise manner. Assists the endoscopy doctor with endoscopy procedures within the Nursing scope of practice. Knowledge of endoscopy instruments and equipment to include the use, handling, and cleaning. Knowledge of endoscopy procedures, techniques, symptoms and complications of endoscopy, anesthesia, or conscious sedation and consequent nursing interventions. Recovers the patient post -procedure per facility policy. BLS/ACLS certification is required for this position and can be obtained upon hire. Demonstrates professional communication and conduct Work collaboratively with all levels of health care professional and support to facilitate positive patient care outcomes Compliance with various Isolation precautions, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and Infection Control guidelines. Skills in time management, priority setting, assessment and urgent intervention are essential Patient, Family, and/or caregiver education and support. Acquire specialty certification, Certified Gastroenterology Registered Nurse from Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates (SGNA). Promotes evidence-based best practices.
