About the Position: This position is located in the Cardiac Catheterization Lab at Brooke Army Medical Center, San Antonio, Texas. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation. A recruitment or relocation incentive may be authorized. Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service. Student Loan repayment may be authorized. Non-Federal work experience may be creditable for leave purposes.
- Provide comprehensive professional nursing care to the adolescent, young adult, adult and geriatric patients as a critical care nurse for the Cardiac catheterization - Cardiovascular Procedure Unit and Cardiology Service.
- Initiate life-saving measures which include but are not limited to advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation. These measures include calculating dosages of potent and potentially lethal drugs prior to the arrival of a physician.
- Assist the physician with life-threatening procedures such as insertion of arterial/venous and thermodilution catheters, which are directed straight into the heart, chest tubes, endotracheal tubes, and the inducement of life-threatening arrhythmias.
- Assess patient to include physical and psychosocial needs by evaluating patient’s records, charts, history, and conducting interview; alert physicians of potential problems during cardiac catheterization and plan nursing care accordingly.
- Train new nurses and technicians by conducting on-the-job training and instruction in basic and advanced principles of patient care in the Cardiovascular Procedure Unit recovery area.
