The Registered Nurse (RN) - Urgent Care (UC) is responsible for practicing in a role that is inclusive of direct care provider, educator, administrator, researcher, consultant, leader, and advocate. The incumbent of this position uses assessment data to determine diagnoses, solve problems, and address other concerns on the UC unit. This RN will evaluate the progress toward achieving the expected goal and outcomes, adjusting the plan as necessary.

• The Registered Nurse (RN) - Urgent Care (UC) is responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing and/or supervising direct patient care on unit 400UC. The RN in this role assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care. The RN - UC is also responsible for the following duties: Providing urgent care to patients with acute and/or chronic medical, surgical, and psychiatric conditions. Triaging all unscheduled patients in accordance with the Emergency Severity Index. Administering medications and procedures per established policies and guidelines. Providing competent, evidence-based care to assigned patients and oversight of licensed vocational nurses/nursing assistants, as appropriate to the setting. Partnering with the patient, family, and interdisciplinary team to promote effective and safe transitions across the health care continuum. Providing immediate nursing intervention in emergency situations. Implementing patient safety practices with regard to medication administration, patient identification, fall risk assessment and prevention, hand-off reports using the SBAR (situation, background, assessment and recommendations) format. Assisting in directing the provision of nursing education, orientation, competencies and providing quality improvement and enhance outcomes utilization. Integrating knowledge, skills, abilities, and judgment in goal setting for managing complex situations. Providing patient health education to patients and families with regard to current treatment, health issues, and patient/family concerns in accordance with the educational level of the patient/family members. Influencing outcomes on the unit by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team. Other duties, as assigned. Nursing care ranges from basic nursing care to initial stabilization care.
