About the Position: This position is located at Portsmouth Naval Medical Center, Directorate of Nursing, Portsmouth, VA. The purpose of this position is to provide nursing care in a multiservice operating room and to provide a full range of surgical nursing services. This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

  • Perform circulating roles of a perioperative nurse.
  • Ensure sterile technique and anticipates the surgical team's needs.
  • Provide direction and on-the-job training to military and civilian personnel, para-professionals, medical students, residents, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Function as a charge nurse of a particular shift, assuming the responsibility for promoting quality, cost-effective nursing care, within the framework of the medical treatment facility (MTF) philosophy and mission objectives.
  • Collaborate with surgeons in one or more surgical services to assess, coordinate, plan, and implement the newest approaches and practices.
