This is an exciting opportunity to join the CSB Entry, Assessment, and Referral Services team providing comprehensive behavioral health nursing care to individuals with serious mental illness, substance use disorders, and developmental disabilities. Licensed Practical Nurse appointees will deliver therapeutic nursing and behavioral health interventions under the supervision of a registered nurse. Appointees will serve as members of a nursing team and a multidisciplinary treatment team and will provide support and education regarding medical issues to non-medical team members. They provide support and education regarding medical issues to non-medical team members, perform health screenings, conduct point-of-care testing, support the integration of behavioral and physical health, and document all services provided using an electronic health record.

Schedule and location: The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday and may include evening and/or weekend hours, depending on the needs of the site. This position is based at the Sharon Bulova Center for Community Health, located at 8221 Willow Oaks Corporate Drive, Fairfax, VA.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from an accredited Practical Nursing program; plus, two years of experience as a Licensed Practical Nurse or two years of related experience providing medical services in a public health/ community health setting (e.g., Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Medical Technician, or other relevant experience).

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
  • Possession of current license or a multistate licensure privilege to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the Commonwealth of Virginia at time of hire;
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - within 3 months of hire
  • CPR/First Aid certification - within 3 months of hire

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
  • The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, a Child Protective Services Registry check, and sanction screening to the satisfaction of the employer. A TB screening upon hire and annually thereafter. 
  • This position is emergency/essential services personnel. (Required to report for duty during inclement weather and/or other emergencies.)     
  • Licensed providers may not “opt out” of being a Medicare provider.  

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Practical experience working in behavioral health and other health care settings
  • Experience with service delivery to individuals with serious mental illness, substance use disorders, and/or developmental disabilities
  • Experience with Electronic Health Records (EHR)
  • Experience communicating with diverse bilingual/multi-lingual populations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to read and record medication orders. Ability to take vital signs (blood pressure, weight, height, abdominal girth, temperature, pulse, blood sugar finger sticks, and nursing assessments) and use a computer to read and enter data into EHR. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.

Panel Interview and may include a practical exercise.
