The Surgery Pharmacy Technician is a highly specialized, nationally certified technician who will perform a variety of complex functions in the surgery satellite pharmacy and operating rooms. Most duties will be performed in the surgery segregated compounding area (SCA).
- VA Careers - Pharmacy: https://youtube.com/embed/Fn_ickNBEws Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional Duties include but not limited to: Performs essential role in preparation, compounding, dispensing, and distribution of sterile and nonsterile medication within designated surgery and procedural areas. After prescription/order(s) are reviewed by a pharmacist for therapeutic propriety, reviews orders for technical accuracy and alerts pharmacist to any concerns so that the item dispensed corresponds to the drug and dose ordered. Receives, reviews, and prepares physician order for sterile, non-sterile, and controlled substance medications. Performs accurate product identification, labeling, dosage calculation, and compounding of agents by utilizing package literature, written procedural guidelines, and application of specialized knowledge. Successfully completes assignments and maintains annual competencies to compound non-hazardous IV sterile preparations according to USP standards. Follows proper aseptic preparation techniques when compounding hazardous and non-hazardous medications. Reviews anticipated inventory needs and notifies procurement technician in a timely manner of products required. Assists in maintaining all required records related to sterile compounding and controlled substance dispensing. Maintains inventory in Anesthesia Workstations and other automated dispensing cabinets in the surgical and procedural areas. Adds/removes product and adjusts par levels based on utilization reports. Assists with investigating and resolving controlled substance discrepancies. Maintains surgery satellite medication inventory, compounding supplies, and cleaning products to ensure availability and minimize waste. Conducts daily, weekly, and monthly SCA room cleaning to include check for soon to expire medications. Work Schedule: Mon - Fri 0530 - 1400.
