The Supervisory Medical Support Assistant directs programs at the VA St. Louis Healthcare System and satellite outpatient clinics for the Health Administration Service. They are responsible for evaluating the work of subordinate staff, resolving complex problems to ensure patient services are met, and extracting data to provide reports to senior management.   • Resolving complex problems to ensure patient services are met. Evaluating the work of subordinate staff, new products, equipment, and systems. Planning and directing the subordinate Lead MSA and MSA's activities. Extracting and analyzing data to provide reports to senior management for tracking measures. Participates in the hiring selection process by reviewing applications, sitting on a selection panel, and making hiring recommendations to the Service Chief. Evaluating performance and taking disciplinary action when necessary. Coaches and trains staff, ensuring the full scope of training completion. Reviewing all policies and, if needed, writing/updating SOPs and Medical Center Policies in draft form. Reviews all patient movements from the day before and, if needed, correcting errors and training responsible staff. Manages the tour of duty work schedule and conducts monthly staff meetings for MSA staff. Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.
