This Supervisory Medical Administration Specialist position works in the Medical Administration Service (MAS) at the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Health Care System, in New Orleans, Louisiana, serving as the Inpatient Operations Manager, reporting to the Chief/Assistant Chief, MAS, and is responsible for supporting the management of Inpatient operations and administrative health systems. The Selectee supervises inpatient ward administrative staff and administrative services.

  • The Supervisory Medical Administration Specialist - Inpatient Operations Manager provides expert advice and guidance on both operational and strategic issues involving the complex and ever-changing needs of inpatient care delivery. The major duties of the position include, but are not limited to: Possesses a thorough knowledge of business operations functions within a medical facility, including contract management resources acquisitions, and financial management, and quality improvement principles. Makes sound, well-informed, and objective decisions; perceives the impact and implications of decisions; commits to action, even in uncertain situations, to accomplish organizational goals; causes. Directs Health Administration Service programs in broad business practices such as member services; revenue cycle management; purchased care; workload and clinical data capture; resource allocation; health information management; and clinical administrative management support. Develops both long and short- range policies and plans for the Service to advance business practices that support patient care and delivery of health benefits. Incumbent is responsible for making and implementing decisions directly affecting patient care and makes recommended administrative planning decisions to senior management. Provides leadership for advancing business practices that support patient care and delivery of health benefits. Represents a single accountable authority for developing administrative processes and policy to conform to national regulations and directives. Develops internal review systems and standards within the Medical Administration Service, and assures that the patients administrative activities which are interrelated with clinical services follow these standards. Develops both long and short- range policies and plans for the Service to advance business practices that support patient care and delivery of health benefits. Provides active and well informed administrative participation in planning for the delivery of health care by taking the initiative to identify needs and potential issues/ concerns devising flexibilities in operations and constructive, cost-effective approaches to the resolution of problems, and participates in the formative stages, in overall facility managerial planning so as to assure that an awareness of medical administrative issues and implementations are considered and influence management decisions. Establishes and maintains good relations with applicants, Veterans, patients, their families and visitors to promote an understanding of the VHA rules of eligibility, and creates an atmosphere conducive to quality patient care. Has an overall responsibility for assuring that administrative support is provided to the outpatient, procedure, emergency department, and inpatient areas of the facility. Participates in formal and informal management sessions, including policy review and advisory boards or committees covering the full range of activities relating to medical center policies and operations. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., subject to change based on the needs of the facility. Telework: This position may be authorized for telework.
