The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for Electronics Technician (LSS SECURITY) (Facilities Management Division).

The responsibilities of the Electronics Technician (Life Safety Systems - Security) include using computerized maintenance management software to document the status of maintenance work orders; determining which hand tools are required for certain maintenance repairs. Responsible for the installation, programming, configuration, testing, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of electronic security systems components including, but not limited to, electronic intrusion detection, Close Circuit Television (CCTV), IP based Video Surveillance, Access Control, Windows-based software applications and security management platforms. Additional responsibilities include the design and implementation of computer networks, employing knowledge of TCP/IP, LAN/WAN, Routers/switches, IP addressing, and PoE.
General Description

Performs skilled technical work in the installation, adjustment, maintenance, and modification of electronic equipment.

Works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.


Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Requires three (3) years of working with electronics and low and high voltage or closely related experience.


Special Certifications and Licenses

Most possess and maintain a valid Florida Class E or higher driver's license for duration of assignment.

PLEASE NOTE: In accordance with Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI)/Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) security policies, the FBI/FDLE Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Access Security Policy requires that all criminal justice agencies (including Broward Sheriff's Office, State Attorney's Office, and Medical Examiner's Office) have documentation of enhanced background screening on file for all personnel who may conduct any type of unescorted work or duties within any location that Criminal Justice Information (CJI) is housed (i.e., any type of computer or computer system/network with direct access to CJI). Therefore, this Electronics Technician position may require: (1) state of residency and (2) passing and maintaining a Level 2 Background Screening.  
 Preferences
* Graduation from an accredited Electronics vocational school
* Associate's Degree or Higher in Electronics or closely related field
* Burglar Alarm System Agent (BASA)
* CompTIA A+ Certification
* CompTIA Network+ Certification
* At least one (1) years of experience using a computerized maintenance management system
* At least two (2) working in a controlled, high security environment
* At least two (2) years experience working with computer network systems
* At least two (2) years experience working with IP based video surveillance systems
* At least two (2) years experience working with burglar alarm systemsDuties and Responsibilities

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.

Supervises subordinates in the use of a variety of instrumentation and electronic equipment including electronic tests, pneumatic/hydraulic testers, computers, master controllers, shop tools, and other specialized devices.

Installs, adjusts, and maintains alternating and direct current devices, sensors, recorders, analog/digital parameter transmitters and receivers; installs and tests special equipment such as antennae, frequency monitors, microphones, cable and electrical interference suppressors.

Installs, adjusts, and maintains medium high and ultra-high frequency alternating and direct current radio receivers, transmitters, and auxiliaries according to diagrams, drawings and sketches.

Supervises and participates in the installation, adjustment, repair, and maintenance of flow loop system, alternating and direct current circuitry with solid state electronic micro circuitry, pneumatic control systems, and related equipment.

Supervises and participates in on-site maintenance, repairs, and troubleshooting work.

Assigns work to subordinate technicians, participates in the more difficult phases of installation, adjustment, repair, maintenance, and troubleshooting of computers, flow measuring devices, sensors, analog/digital controllers, programmable controllers, transmitters and receivers, detecting devices, and other alternating and direct current devices.

Supervises complete overhaul, including adjusting, repairing, and replacing parts and converting obsolete equipment to conform to present control loop design and construction standards.

Makes recommendations to superiors for the improvement of instrumentation, industrial electronic/electrical, pneumatic/mechanical control devices and digital frequency shift telemetry.

Estimates time and materials required for proposed jobs maintains records and submits various reports requisitions supplies and equipment; prepares and maintains operating and special reports as required by superior.

Performs related work as assigned.

Physical Demands

Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.

Performs light to medium work that involves walking or standing virtually all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or considerable skill, adeptness and speed in the use of the fingers, hands or limbs in tasks involving close tolerances or limits of accuracy.

Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.

Involves routine and frequent exposure to electrical shocks; heights.
