  • Supervises, trains, and provides technical instruction to inmate workers and assigned staff in landscaping, grounds maintenance, vegetable gardening, greenhouse operations, and seasonal planting.
  • Oversee the installation and maintenance of lawns, shrubs, trees, flower beds, gardens, and hardscapes while ensuring high standards of quality and productivity.
  • Maintains accountability and proper care of tools, equipment, chemicals, and supplies and ensures compliance with safety, security, pesticide, and agency regulations.
  • Manages greenhouse activities, including planting, propagation, fertilizing, spraying, crop scheduling, plant sales, and composting programs.
  • Maintains require pesticide licensing and supports agency horticultural programs, special events and other assigned duties.                                                   
                Must successfully complete four (4) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:

A high school diploma and custodial, groundskeeping or maintenance experience directly related to the area of employment.
SCDC Minimum Requirements: 

  • A high school diploma and custodial, groundskeeping or maintenance experience directly related to the area of employment or a horticulture degree focusing on the science and art of growing and managing plants. 

  • Must possess or obtain a SC Applicator's Pesticide License within the first year of employment.
