This Occupational Therapist (OT) position is located in the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Service (PM&RS) Service, Occupational Therapy Department Section at the VA Boston Healthcare System, West Roxbury Campus. This is a full-time position with 40 hours per week.

  • This position will be mainly be stationed out of the West Roxbury campus but could be utilized at all of our VA Boston Campuses (West Roxbury, Plymouth, Lowell, Jamaica Plain or Brockton). This position reports directly to the Occupational Therapy Supervisor. The Occupational Therapist will be independent with managing an assigned caseload in our inpatient acute care setting, outpatient clinic environment, or our Community Living Center with our sub-acute rehabilitation and long-term care population. Duties may include, but are not limited to: Perform independent patient evaluations using appropriate standardized tests; independently develop, implement, and modify occupational therapy treatment programs; recognize contraindications and appropriateness of treatment prescribed by referring provider. Provide timely and accurately written documentation of patient status, progress with therapy, therapy plan, and patient response to treatment in accordance with policy. Interact professionally and courteously with all VA staff, patients, and patients' families/caregivers, and managing caseload at a productive standard. The incumbent must adhere to the facility rules, policies, and procedures, as well as the American Occupational Therapy Association standards of practice and standards of ethics to ensure quality patient care. Permanent Change of Station (PCS): Not authorized. Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases. When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade). Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year). Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child. Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66. Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA. Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement). Notification: This position is a AFGE Bargaining Unit position. This position is in the Excepted Service. This position is covered by locality-based comparability pay. Narrative responses to the knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) may be required from the selectee in order to proceed with the appointment. Current and former Federal employees may submit copies of their most recent SF-50, (Notice of Personnel Action). The SF-50 must identify the position title, series, grade, step, tenure and type of service (Competitive or Excepted).
