This position is located within the Safety and Emergency Management Service at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System, Palo Alto, California. The Environmental Protection Specialist, henceforth titled Green Environmental Management System Manager (GEMS Program Manager) is responsible for addressing all environmental performance in a manner that meets the requirements of Federal, state, and local environmental statutes and regulations.

  • ***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** Duties include, but are not limited to the following: Manages, administers, and advises facility employees and leadership on environmental program implementation. Serves as Green Environmental Management System (GEMS) program manager. Acts as the technical advisor, author of, and Contracting Office Representative for environmental contracts. Identifies and implements training, policies, operational requirements, and engineering controls needed to comply with evolving and dynamic environmental regulatory requirements. Develops and carries out environmental training plans for affected staff. Provides guidance, oversight, and consultation to management and address, resolve compliance findings. Prepares and submits annual management review reports of the GEMS program following established protocols. Serves as healthcare system liaison to regional Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) office, and other Federal, state, and local government entities related to environmental issues. Performs other related duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Full Time, Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm Recruitment & Relocation Incentives: Not authorized Critical Skills Incentive (CSI): Not approved
