This position serves as the Supervisory Engineering Technician and is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Healthcare Administration (VHA), Mid-Atlantic Health Care Network (VISN 6), Durham VA Medical Center (VAMC), in Durham, North Carolina under the Facilities Management Service (FMS) within the electronics technician section and the engineering technician section.

  • ***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** Duties include, but are not limited to, the following: Provides comprehensive technical support of highly complex medical and non-medical direct patient care electronic systems and devices Evaluates, identifies and provides corrective action and recommendations for equipment system malfunctions of complex microprocessor-based systems that utilize state of art technology and have vitally interrelated and sometimes dispersed subsystems Performs electronically challenging interfacing such as locks controlled by the Security system which is also tied into the Fire Alarm system to release in case of fire, Patient Wandering system integrates with the Security system via electronic door locks and closed circuit television cameras and monitors as well as integrating with the elevators and other alarm systems to control dementia patient access control (the Nurse Call system integrates with the Code Blue system, Wireless Paging system, televisions and the Environment a Control systems utilized by quadriplegic and paraplegic patients) Prepares contract drawings and specifications for competitively bid construction and maintenance repair work Prepares detailed cost estimates for competitively bid construction projects and maintenance and repair work Prepares construction progress reports and payment requests for contract construction projects Maintains record drawings of all station structures and grounds utilizing AutoCAD programs Determines the training needs of the subordinates and arranges for the appropriate training Oversees and conducts new employee orientation and formal and on-the-job training concerning proper equipment use, work practices/procedures, safety procedures, and other varied topics affecting construction services Conducts technical reviews and evaluations of all subordinate work Develops and maintains performance standards for subordinate positions Conducts performance standard reviews with the subordinate personnel and makes appropriate modifications to better align them with VHA's mission Conducts formal work performance appraisals for direct subordinates Performs other related duties as assigned Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm Recruitment & Relocation Incentives: Not authorized Critical Skills Incentive (CSI): Not approved
