The Advanced Medical Support Assistant (AMSA) in the Dental Service Department, provides comprehensive, focused care and consultative services to all the facilities Medical/Surgical specialties. The care provided at the Grand Island, NE Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC), covers the areas of comprehensive dentistry, endodontics, oral surgery, prosthodontics and periodontics. This care is provided by staff dentists and dental residents.

Records and relays messages and/or redirect calls as necessary. Obtains identifying information and determines the nature of the visit/call. Schedules for appointments and provide information regarding clinic and hospital policies, procedures and locations for patients, family members, staff, etc. Maintains and monitors patients' appointment schedules for the clinic and communicates delays in scheduled appointments. Coordinates and schedules patient appointments with other clinics, specialties and inter-facility between Lincoln, Grand Island and Omaha. Receives and handles concerns ensuring that quality service is rendered in a timely. serves as a central point of contact for assigned dental team for information. Responds to complex questions and provides advice regarding regulations. Assist on special projects and prepares special and recurring reports as directed. Determines patient eligibility for benefits and schedules and coordinates patient appointment accordingly. Participate in team huddles and team meetings designed to help manage consults. Independently follow up on team huddles by sharing information and collaborating with the team to ensure Veterans receive timely care. Collect, organize, maintain, and ensure the integrity of numerous data collection resources. Serve as resident coordinator for General Practice Residency, Endodontic and Periodontal post-graduate training programs. Liaison between private fee dentists, patients, fee clerks and Chief, Dental Service to ensure proper documentation is completed. Tracks performed education by dental staff and residents. Enforces policies regarding the scheduling of patients and communication with those who have excessive failure and no-show appointments. Coordinates, receives and verifies invoices for lab contract costs. Updates database utilized for case tracking and lab expenditures. Conducts annual inventory of office, dental and lab equipment. Maintains sufficient office supplies and ensures functioning office equipment. Other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 7:30 am - 4:00 pm Recruitment Incentive (Sign-on Bonus): Not authorized. Permanent Change of Station (Relocation Assistance): Not authorized. Student Repayment Program: This occupational series may be eligible for the Student Loan Repayment Program (SLRP), and participation is available for highly qualified candidates. Repayment is limited to $40,000 annually, up to $100,000 in lifetime awards. Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases. When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade). Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year). Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience. Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child. Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66. Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement).
