The primary purpose of the position is to assists the Compliance Officer in the performance of annual system-wide prioritized risk assessments for the Integrity and compliance program. The program is complex and encompasses 9 different Sites having 9 outpatient pharmacies, 2 inpatient pharmacies, 49 additional narcotic areas of use and management of 48 inspectors

  • Major duties include but are not limited to the following: Analyzes audit results, writes reports and recommends system changes to the Compliance Officer, as appropriate. Assists in the development and implementation of written policies and procedures that promote the commitment to compliance and address specific areas of potential fraud, such as billing, collections and coding. Provides insight to the Controlled Substance Coordinator in the prompt and thorough investigations into allegations of diversion of controlled substances or the inappropriate use of controlled substances. Conducts audits and/or other evaluation techniques to measure compliance with VHA guidance and other regulations and to assist in the reduction of identified problems in areas such as Care in the Community, Consolidated Patient Account Center and facility clinical operations. Develops and provides up-to-date compliance training and training materials on a recurring basis to ensure employees maintain understanding of compliance and the facility's compliance goals. Possesses strong written and oral communication skills; effective interpersonal skills to interface between senior leadership, department leaders, medical staff and administrative staff; and strong skills in personal diplomacy which display an elevated level of motivation, team orientation, professionalism and integrity. Assists the Compliance Officer in planning, implementing and maintaining the facility Integrity and Compliance program, policies, and procedures in a large complex multi-mission health care system Assists service lines/department in developing appropriate monitoring and auditing processes that support facility goals. Ensures that the facility Controlled Substances Coordinator (CSC) has in place a comprehensive system for managing the controlled substances inspection program to include appropriate safety and control of all inventories, compliance with Veterans Health Administration policies, Federal Regulations, Joint Commission, Systematic Ongoing Assessment and Review Strategy, and Office of the Inspector General Standards on controlled substances. Assists with controlled substance inspections and inspector training at all VA Northern California locations, and with other controlled substance inspection program tasks as needed. Assists the Compliance Officer in the performance of annual system-wide prioritized risk assessments for the Integrity and Compliance Program.
