The mission of Gaston County Parks and Recreation is to acquire, develop, maintain, and manage parks; efficiently manage public resources, and provide opportunities for citizens to participate in wholesome leisure activities.
The County Parks and Recreation Department plans, develops, and maintains parks, and provides an array of organized activities to help meet the leisure needs of the citizens of the County.
The anticipated hiring range for this position is $16.88 - $20.04.The duties listed below are not all the duties that may be assigned but are those that are considered essential for an employee to perform.
- Open and close park gates daily as per operating hours.
- Clean parks daily, including: restrooms, waterfront, beach, fishing piers, and picnic areas.
- Follow and post water safety guidelines and rules, as needed at parks with water access.
- Assist public and staff with traffic flow management.
- Assist with parks maintenance services, including but not limited to: lawn maintenance, swim beach/lake maintenance, restroom maintenance, and other facilities, as needed.
- Inspect equipment, piers, shelters, tables, playgrounds, and other equipment. Make repairs as needed. Remove any equipment, as required.
- Assist public with questions, needs, and concern, and any other required tasks as assigned by supervisor.
A valid driver's license is required. Must be able to multi-task and work with others. Must be able to work in extreme heat and cold. Ability to communicate effectively with public, supervisors, and others is required. The applicant selected must undergo a criminal background check and pass a drug screening test prior to employment
