The Corrections Food Service Instructor for the Department of Corrections is a role where you help guide inmate workers in preparing meals that support daily operations. This position leads inmate workers in preparing meals, maintaining kitchen safety, and supporting daily food service at the facility. As a Corrections Food Service Instructor, you will perform the following duties:

  • Food Instruction: Teach inmates how to prepare, cook, bake, and serve meals according to recipes
  • Safety Practices: Ensure safe and sanitary operation of tools, equipment, cleaning methods, and storage procedures
  • Area Inspection: Check food service areas, supplies, and equipment for compliance with sanitation standards
  • Supply Management: Receive, store, and track food items while following proper inventory rotation
  • Work Planning: Assign inmate duties, review performance, and maintain worker records
  • Custody Control: Maintain care and supervision of inmates during food service activities

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Work hours are 11:30 AM to 7:30 PM or 4:45 AM to 12:45 PM. Work hours and days off to be determined.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position. 
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $49,010 (before taxes).
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of experience in food preparation, production, or service of a variety of complete meal menus in an institutional food service operation, food catering service, restaurant, or in a similar large-scale food production operation; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.


Additional Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
