Primary responsibilities include building and implementing new templates, landing pages, and web pages; integrating back-end applications; and maintaining a cohesive, user-centered site architecture. The Web Developer collaborates closely with the Web and UI/UX Developer, IT Systems team, and campus stakeholders to guide content structure, governance, accessibility compliance, and digital standards. The position plays a central role in shaping content strategy by aligning messaging, navigation, and user journeys with data insights and college goals.
The Web Developer monitors site performance and analytics, maintains security through best-practice development and oversight, troubleshoots web-related issues, and provides day-to-day administration of the college’s platforms. The role also supports internal initiatives, including CMS implementation and system enhancements, ensuring sustainable workflows and scalable solutions.
Working independently under tight deadlines, the Web Developer must demonstrate strong communication skills, attention to detail, and sound judgment to keep the college website functioning at peak performance in service of students, employees, and the broader community. This position is works onsite at the Mount Vernon campus and reports to the Executive Director of Strategic Marketing and Communications.

- Work with the ED and UI/UX Developer to lead and implement the college’s web content strategy to ensure alignment with enrollment, marketing, and institutional priorities;
- Develop and maintain a cohesive information architecture that supports intuitive navigation, clear user journeys, and strong calls to action;
- Establish and oversee content governance standards, including page structure, voice and tone guidance, metadata standards, and content lifecycle management;
- Work with the ED and campus stakeholders to align messaging, storytelling, and digital content with institutional goals;
- Use analytics and user behavior data to inform content decisions, optimize high-traffic pages, and improve engagement and conversion outcomes;
- Audit and evaluate website content for relevance, redundancy, accessibility (WCAG 2.2), and SEO performance; recommend and implement improvements;
- Guide content creators and web editors in best practices for digital writing, usability, and accessibility.
- Work with the Web and UI/UX Developer to administer and manage the Modern Campus content management system;
- Serve in a system administrator role, including toolbar creation, user and group permissions, and workflow management;
- Build new websites, landing pages, and micro-sites aligned with institutional priorities.
- Provide primary support for CMS editing, troubleshooting, and user questions;
- Train and manage web editors to ensure adherence to content, brand, and accessibility standards;
- Configure and manage user accounts across web system;
- Design, organize, and maintain high traffic and enrollment focused on pages and other institutional content areas;
- Provide guidance to the college community on online design and brand standards.
Web Applications Development and Technical Architecture
- Translate business and marketing requirements into scalable, component-based technical designs;
- Develop and maintain secure, well-documented code using best practices (XML/XSLT, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, server-side scripting (e.g., PHP or similar), and SQL;
- Build and support data-driven web applications, including custom APIs, RSS feeds, templates, and integrations with enterprise and third-party systems;
- Maintain and troubleshoot Modern Campus templates, microsites, hosted forms, and embedded third-party tools (e.g., translation and search components);
- Optimize application performance; identify and remediate security and accessibility (WCAG) issues;
- Maintain version control and technical documentation; provide knowledge transfer as needed;
- Create comprehensive technical documentation and provide handoff training to business and development staff.
Infrastructure, Systems, and Security Management
- Collaborate with Information Technology to support and maintain web services within IT-managed hosting environments;
- Monitor application performance and system functionality; identify and escalate infrastructure issues to minimize downtime;
- Evaluate and recommend software solutions that support Marketing and Communications digital initiatives;
- Ensure secure, stable integrations between web platforms, enterprise systems, and third-party applications.
Analytics, Accessibility, and Continuous Improvement
- Manage and monitor SEO, accessibility, and website quality assurance platforms to identify broken links, content errors, performance issues, and compliance gaps; implement corrective actions;
- Monitor and analyze website analytics (Google Analytics and related tools) to support data-informed decision-making;
- Provide strategic recommendations to the ED regarding web development priorities, enrollment goals, and communications strategy based on analytics and institutional plans;
- Ensure the website meets WCAG 2.2 accessibility compliance standards.
- Work with the ED to provide project management for web initiatives, including scope, timeline, deliverables, QA, and user acceptance;
- Collaborate with UI/UX Developer, IT, and campus stakeholders to ensure successful implementation of web initiatives;
- Balance marketing, informational, and transactional demands of the public web presence;
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, web development, web design, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience;
- Five (5) or more years of experience in web development.
- An equivalent combination of higher education and web development experience.
- Higher education experience;
- Content Management System (CMS) administration experience, including design and facilitation of training for system users; Modern Campus CMS system preferred;
- Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, etc.);
- Cultural competency training;
- Ability to work and effectively communicate in a multicultural and diverse environment and with people whose first language is not English.
Knowledge and/or understanding of:
- Designing, developing, and maintaining websites using content management systems such as Modern Campus CMS (OU Campus), and comparable platforms (e.g., WordPress, Drupal);
- Modern web development standards and technologies, including HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, PHP (or comparable server-side languages), and relational databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server);
- Debugging, refactoring, and optimizing server-side code to ensure efficient, scalable, and maintainable solutions;
- Web security best practices from a development perspective, building secure coding principles into applications to support a strong defense against vulnerabilities;
- Working with XML, XSL/XSLT, and structured content for database publishing and systems integration;
- Using version control systems (e.g., Git/GitHub or similar) to manage and maintain code repositories;
- Responsive and mobile-first design principles and frameworks (e.g., Bootstrap or similar);
- Using digital design and asset creation tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Cloud) to support web and basic print production needs.

Salary and Benefits:
- Annual salary rate for this twelve-month, 100% of full-time position is $70,000 - $78,000 annually, depending on experience;
- Contracts are written annually for the period of July 1 to June 30. This position will be filled as soon practical after a candidate is identified and the salary will be pro-rated for the remaining contract period.
- This position is exempt from civil service. This position is eligible for overtime.
