General Description of Assigned Duties: Functions as an expert clinician in a dual, integrated capacity as the facility's Nursing Excellence Coordinator and High Reliability Organization (HRO) Coordinator, advancing professional nursing practice, quality, and safety outcomes by aligning nursing professional practice models, American Nurses Credentialing Center's (ANCC) Pathway to Excellence (PTE) and Magnet Recognition program, with facility-wide High Reliability principles.

  • Preferred Experience: Master's prepared RN with both HRO and Shared Governance experience. Assigned duties but not limited to: The Nurse Registered Nurse - Nursing Excellence & HRO Program Coordinator demonstrates expert leadership, experience, and creative approaches to improvement in quality-of-care outcomes. Fosters positive professional practice environments by building, supporting, and creating alignments for nursing excellence and steering innovation through collaboration and stakeholder engagement across the facility, Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN), and enterprise. Requires or authorizes employees to formulate, determine, or influence the polices of Veterans Affairs (VA). The RN - Nursing Excellence & HRO Coordinator demonstrates participation in strategic planning and alignment of goals at the service, facility, and national level. Applies knowledge of data, information, processes, organizational interactions, skills, and analytical expertise, as well as systems, networks, and information exchange capabilities to document outcome. Assumes leadership in promoting professional development and provides coaching and mentoring to nursing staff. The RN - Nursing Excellence & HRO Program Coordinator is responsible for program development related to professional governance, EBP, HRO, PI, and professional development; project implementation; oversight of data collection and analysis; designing useful decision support systems; delivering educational experiences; enhancing lifelong learning; and supporting healthcare innovation. Areas of responsibility include all patient care areas in which nursing services are delivered regardless of organizational alignment. The RN - Nursing Excellence & HRO Program Coordinator executes the position responsibilities that demonstrate effective leadership, detailed planning, professional communication, creative and innovative approaches to the improvement of safety/healthcare program development and possess an ability to organize priorities. Performs duties directly contributing to high quality and safe patient care within the Veterans Health Administration (VHA). Duties require the ability to apply specialized principles and practices to ensure a systems approach to healthcare delivery.
