- Joining the Customs and Border Protection, Office of Information and Technology will allow you to use your experience in applications software, policies and procedures. This position starts at a salary of $121,785.00 (GS-13, Step 1) to $158,322.00 (GS-13, Step 10). GS Salary: Visit this link to view the locality pay tables by geographic area. In this Information Technology Specialist (Applications Software) position, you will become a key team member of Homeland Security professionals. Typical work assignments include: Conducting various stages of application software development, testing, implementation, operational support. Working in conjunction with the application business analysts and development teams to create technical user stories and tasks. Making recommendations on complex technical issues and ensuring that applicable testing methods and procedures are adopted to keep pace with improvements in software testing technology and best practices. Recommending automation and monitoring options to senior management; identifies time, cost, and resources that are available within the agency.
